Hello, Jalapeno Lover! Can you believe it is August already? Well into the summer and we're sure your jalapeno plants are producing copious amounts of jalapeno peppers. We know ours sure are. We took the whole weekend to work specifically on new salsa recipes for our new SALSAS book, which will include a general chili pepper focus, but we thought we'd share our latest creation with you, which is listed below: Roasted Red Jalapeno Salsa! Roasted Red Jalapeno Salsa Red jalapeno peppers are slightly sweeter than the green variety. The jalapenos turn red eventually when left on the plant. We roasted our red jalapenos to enhance the flavor, then combined them with tomatoes, Anaheim peppers, tomatillos and more. This recipe was deceptively spicy, but we know you like that.
Mini Jalapeno Scallop Kabobs Scallops are one of life's perfect foods, so light and airy, tasty yet very healthy and low calorie, easy to cook with and versatile. Add jalapeno peppers and you've got a powerful combination. We made these for a quick summer dinner, sat on the patio, and enjoyed them over Spanish Idaho Rice, another of our fun recipes.

Interesting Jalapenos in the News In a tough economy, dining out has gone to the dogs It's true. When the economy is tough, people want to spend less money on dining out, and hot dogs are one of life's less expensive comfort foods. You know what else is cheap? Jalapenos! If you don't grow them in your garden, you can pick them up at the store for pocket change and smother your hot dogs with them. Jalapeno-White Cheddar Corn Bread Muffins We love it when news stations post cool jalapeno pepper recipes. This time, the good folks at Fox 11 have posted one for jalapeno cornbread! We just made cornbread this weekend (in between bouts of salsa making) and it was delicious. Valerie Bertinelli: ‘I’m an Emotional Eater’ To quote Ms. Bertinelli: “I haven’t had a jalapeno popper in years!” Hey! You can still eat plenty of poppers and not gain. Just do it the healthy way. We have tons of information on how to make jalapeno poppers with our without the oil. Black Bean and Pineapple Relish This relish recipe with jalapeno at Freep.com sounds great, but where's the photo? We'd like to try this one still. Pepper motif forms theme for exhibit "In one painting, jalapeños glow like coals, forming a wall of scorching, golden light behind a peasant woman playing a violin; in another, ripe red peppers tinged with yellow take the form of birds of paradise, fanning out above a picket fence; in yet another, the tapered fruit floats in the air as confetti above a Fiesta crowd." - We would have liked to see this exhibit! Random Photo Not exactly the best pepper photo, but it still looks good! It's hard to make a jalapeno look bad. |
