Jalapeno Popper Stuffed Burgers

Take the classic combination of jalapeno peppers and cheese jalapeno poppers and stuff them inside of a burger? OH YES! This is quite addictive, especially with the southwest style creamy lime sauce.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE SOUTHWEST LIME SAUCE
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream or Mexican crema
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning - Try this homemade taco seasoning mix
  • Juice from half a lime
  • FOR THE JALAPENO POPPER STUFFING
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ounce shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1-2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • FOR THE BURGERS
  • 12 ounces ground turkey
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1-2 jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon bread crumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large toasted buns for serving
  • Sliced tomato for serving

Cooking Directions

  1. Prepare your Southwest lime sauce by combining all 3 ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Prepare your stuffing by heating a pan to medium heat and dashing with oil. Add jalapeno peppers and cook about 4-5 minutes to soften. Add to a mixing bowl and cool.
  3. Add cheeses, bacon and taco seasoning. Mix well. Set aside until ready to use.
  4. Get your burgers ready by adding the turkey to a separate mixing bowl with the cumin, taco seasoning, salt and pepper, and bread crumbs.
  5. In your heated pan, splash with a bit more oil and add jalapeno peppers and onion. Cook about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook another minute, stirring often. Cool and add to the burger mixing bowl.
  6. Hand mix the burgers, but just a bit to combine. Do not overmix. Form into 4 small flattened patties.
  7. Divide the cheesy jalapeno popper mixture over 2 of the turkey patties. Then, top with the other patties. Hand form them into stuffed patties, so the jalapeno stuffing is completely enclosed in the seasoned turkey meat.
  8. Heat a large grill pan to medium heat and lightly oil. Cook the stuffed burgers about 5-6 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through.
  9. Set onto buns and top with sliced tomato and your Southwest lime sauce.
